ABOUT THE ARTIST – (click on picture to enlarge it)

Alan “Pete” Peterson was born in Denver, Colorado in 1931 and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  He was entirely self-taught and won his first art competition at age seven with a drawing of the “Queen Mary.”

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy.  His time spent in the navy etched an indelible fascination for ships and the sea.  “Pete” Peterson spent many years working in various vocations to support his painting “habit” before finally turning to art full time in 1970.  As he put it, he tried to make his maritime work “ficticious but feasible.”

“Pete” Peterson passed away in 2002.  His talent and love of  the sea live on in his work.
